Certificate for Music Educators

Yesterday our mentors and participants gathered for the induction session of the pilot we’re running with Trinity College, a Certificate for Music Educators (CME), which is aimed at developing inclusive practice in settings which involve the most vulnerable children and young people.

As well as improving standards of inclusive practice among existing practitioners, BPM are committed to increasing the diversity of our music education workforce so that it more closely reflects the musical and cultural identities of the children and communities with which we work.

To achieve this, we are using the CME to support emerging music practitioners with protected characteristics to develop into qualified, professional music educators. The course will be run using a flexible, creative approach which takes into account the individual needs and circumstances of each learner with mentors who will themselves be practitioners with significant experience working with children in challenging circumstances, including those in care and those with SEN/D.
