Did you know you can play ANY style of music on a string instrument. This can include classical, jazz, country, bluegrass, pop, hip-hop, rock, mariachi, and others. String players can participate in many different types of live concert performances as well as on recordings of all different types of music.
Every culture in the world has string instruments and values the art of string instrument playing. The violin family of instruments has not changed in design in hundreds of years and by choosing to play the Violin, Viola or Cello you can be a part of a centuries-old tradition.
On Saturday 1st April we are holding our Listen & Play day for Starter Strings and String Group in the main hall at our Music Centre West based in Southmead.
It’s an ideal opportunity for any children considering joining one of our groups to sit in on, or join in with our rehearsals.
This group is suitable for children who have been playing for as little as a term, if they have learnt to use their 1st or 2nd fingers. The music is designed so that there is always an open string with first finger part but the more experienced children can be playing parts that are approaching grade 1 level. There is no audition and there will be tutors on hand to help encourage less confident players.
This group follows on from Starter Strings and is suitable for children who have started using a ‘low 2nd finger’ on the violin/viola or 2nd finger on the cello. This is approximately grade 1 level and we have parts that will stretch the players up to grade 2. Again there are no auditions and we have encouraging and supportive tutors.
09:30 – 10:15 Starter Strings
