Tim Thorpe (Principal Horn, BBC National Orchestra of Wales) will perform a short informal recital with accompanist Claire Alsop, before leading a masterclass in Brass.
Tim Thorpe is one of the most accomplished Horn players of his generation. Upon leaving the Purcell School in 2002 he won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he studied for two years. In 2004 Tim joined the Philharmonia Orchestra as third Horn and just over a year later was appointed Principal Horn of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
In 2004 Tim won the Royal Overseas League award for Wind and Percussion, and the Philip Jones Memorial Prize for an outstanding brass player. He has played with all of the major London orchestras and enjoys chamber music; performing with ensembles including The Nash Ensemble and London Sinfonietta. You may also recognise Tim as soloist from the original BBC 10 Pieces.
