Bristol Youth Choir is made up of four choirs with over a hundred and twenty young people from all over Bristol performing choral music of all styles.

The Singing Sparks, Junior and Intermediate, Upper Voices and Lower Voices ensembles that make up the Bristol Youth Choir give up to five concerts a year in prestigious venues across the city including Bristol Cathedral, St George’s Hall and St Mary Redcliffe. Bristol Youth Choir have also appeared on BBC Breakfast, The One Show, BBC One’s Songs of Praise and broadcast on Radio 3 and BBC Bristol as part of BBC Music Day.

The choirs are directed by David Ogden and Martin Le Poidevin.

Entry by informal audition

Ages: 7-18

This ensemble is part of our Young Companies in Residence programme, supported by Paragon Music Trust, Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, Bristol University Music Society and individual sponsors.

Auditions

Entry to Bristol Youth Choir is by audition. There are no grade or standard requirements to join Bristol Youth Choir – all we ask for is a love of singing! For the audition, young singers will be asked to do some voice tests and exercises with one of our friendly conductors.

Auditions for this year are planned to take place in person on the afternoon/early evening of Friday 1 September 2023.

Bristol Youth Choir has a number of different groups and depending on your year group from September 2023 you would be in the following group:

  • Singing Sparks – Years 3 & 4
  • Junior Choir – Years 5 & 6
  • Intermediate Choir – Year 7
  • Upper Voices – Years 8 – 13
  • Lower Voices – Years 8 – 13

How to book

All ensembles and activity enrolment is managed through our online registration portal, SpeedAdmin. Enrolling via SpeedAdmin should be straightforward, but if you should have difficulty, here are some useful steps to follow.

  • Click the enrol button on this page to access information on each individual choir – these pages will take you to the SpeedAdmin enrolment page.
  • If you already have a SpeedAdmin account, please login to your existing one to avoid multiple accounts being created.
  • Follow the steps on SpeedAdmin to complete your registration including: ensemble selection, student details, payer details.
  • When complete, we will be in touch to arrange payment for your chosen ensemble.
