Bristol Chamber Youth Orchestra is for string players wishing to develop their ensemble playing to a high level. Taking place at 9.30-12.30 on Saturday mornings at our Bristol Centre for Young Musicians based at the Bristol Cathedral Choir School in the city centre, and is for violin, viola, cello and double bass instrumentalists playing at grades 5 to 7.
The BCYO is the precursor to those wishing to join the Bristol Youth Orchestra and gives young players orchestral skills they will need to progress.
Under violin specialist Lynne McCabe and ably assisted by cellist Carole Fletcher, the orchestra works towards being led from the first violin seat rather than through a conductor, giving young players the opportunity to learn how to lead, improving listening skills, awareness of other sections and learning orchestral techniques.
The orchestra performs a challenging mainstream classical/baroque repertoire including works by Vivaldi and Handel.
Predominantly a string orchestra they are joined by Bristol Youth Wind Ensemble for their concerts of which there are 3 a year.
