Listen and Play Day – Strings

Do you have violin, viola, cello or double bass lessons either at school or privately? Would you like to find out what it’s like to play with others of a similar level? Two of our junior string ensembles will be giving a warm welcome to anyone who is interested in finding out more about them.

Come along to our Listen and Play Day on Saturday March 23rd from 9.30am in the main hall at our Music Centre West in Southmead.

It’s an ideal opportunity for children aged 7 – 11 who want to know what it would be like to join one of our groups to sit in or join in with our rehearsals.

Find out a bit more info about the groups below:

Starter Strings is for children who have been playing for as little as a term, and if they have learnt to use their 1st and 2nd fingers.  The music is designed so that there is always an open string with the first finger part but the more experienced children can be playing parts that are approaching grade 1 level.  There is no audition and we have tutors on hand to help and encourage the less confident players.

String Group follows on from Starter Strings and is suitable for children who have started using a ‘low 2nd finger’ on the violin/viola or 2nd finger on the cello.  This is approximately grade 1 level and we have parts that will stretch the players up to grade 2.  Again there are no auditions and we have encouraging and supportive tutors.

Timetable of the morning is as follows:

09:30 – 10:15 Starter Strings
10:15 – 10:45 Break and refreshments
10:45 – 11.30 String Group
