As part of the Virtual Summer Academy, we premiere a series of 10 short films, recorded by our tutors sharing their Musical Journeys and showcasing different styles of music. Tune in on Bristol Plays Music’s YouTube Channel every day at 1pm to watch.
In this film we meet Experimental Electronica artist, Kayla Painter. Kayla is a producer who creates electronic music. She uses instruments, found sounds and synths to write her own experimental compositions. Kayla writes and performs her own original music at gigs and festivals. Sometimes she performs with a visual artist, creating a big audio-visual show. Her career highlights so far have been closing Glastonbury Festival on the Glade Stage and playing at an IMAX theatre. Her music has also been used in adverts and on TV, including for Disney.
Growing up, Kayla learnt to play the recorder, saxophone and double bass, before studying Creative Sound and Music at university and finding her love for electronic music. As well as writing and performing, she now teaches at universities, makes remixes for other musicians, and is always interested in learning more and improving her skills!
